Last winter (2015), here in New England my house was one of many that had ice dam damage. Prior to becoming a HFCU member, I reached out to my "other" military credit union in which I have been a member for 25 plus years for a home equity line of credit. They gave me such a hazel with the paperwork, communications and several days waiting for a response. They did a drive by inspection which pretty much stated they should give me the line of credit based on the condition of my house and the price for which homes have been selling for in my area. Well they did not give me the line of credit and instead they wanted to have me pay for a "non-refundable" full house inspection (I think the cost was like $407) which still didn't guarantee me a line of credit.

So I walked into Hanscom Federal Credit Union on Hanscom, AFB told them what I needed and they had EVERYTHING I needed in two days. I didn't need a house inspection, I didn't need to pay any "non-refundable" fees. The paperwork was easy, they helped me with it right there on base. I now have a new checking account with direct deposit which gets deposited two days earlier than at my "other" credit union. You can't beat the costumer service at HFCU!

Worst Experience Ever

I would first and foremost like to commend Rhonda at the Devens location for finally helping to solve the problems my fiancé and I have been having with your organization. My fiancé has had an account with Hanscom for close to 30 years, and as such we decided to open our joint account there when we moved in together, rather than go with the bank I use. We opened the account at your Bedford location in late Feb. I enrolled as new member, and opened a savings and checking account; we added my fiancé to the account at this time. Roughly 3-4 weeks after opening the account our checks had not arrived. I called to follow up and was transferred to the voicemail of the person who opened our account. This voicemail was never returned. A subsequent phone called resulted in someone issuing us checks that then arrived, but were incorrect (an error also caught by Rhonda at Devens). Upon trying to set up online bill pay, my partner discovered that transactions appeared to be coming from both accounts, but we honestly could not make heads or tails of it. Our bills were coming from one, our debit card from another. We called and he was told he'd hear back. We never heard back from an actual person to tell us what had been resolved, but received a message telling us to call if we were still having concerns. We then received an envelope of receipts for transfers we did not conduct ourselves but were conducted by one of your representatives unbeknownst to us. When we again went to the online account to check, the problem was still occurring. Beyond frustrated, we went to Devens on 4/21 to address the problem in person. With very little effort, Rhonda was able to figure out that checking was never set up for us. Whoever initially set up our accounts set up two savings accounts. As such, our checks were being deposited in one, and bill pay was being deducted from this account, but our debit card was linked to the primary savings account and was deducting from there. What took Rhonda all of two minutes to discover was missed by not only the woman who set up our account, but the numerous people we attempted to work with over the phone over the last two months. Rhonda then looked at our checks and realized that since there was no checking account they were connected with that they were useless, but even if there had been an account, the account number on the checks didn't match ours. Thank goodness we hadn't yet used them. After more phone calls, it was established that we have to close our account and re-open new accounts because Hanscom can't solve the problem any other way. We've opened the new account and transferred funds, but are forced to keep the original account open for a month in order to transfer our direct deposit to the new account. Additionally, we're without checks (again!) and now without debit cards for the 7-10 day period while the new ones are issued. While I am pleased to know that within the next month we will finally have a working account, it should go without saying that I'm beyond underwhelmed with my only Hanscom experience to date. If we run into any further issues with these new accounts that stem from Hanscom's errors, I will be closing all accounts and finding another establishment for our financial needs.

I was introduced to Hanscom Federal Credit Union thru a friend. I wasn't sure they could help me because I have been declined by Voya at my own 403b that I contribute By weekly. I needed the money to pay for my daughter's college. HFCU opened the door for me and I got served on the spot. I will never forget that day.

I waited a long time while the teller carried on with a phone call. Everything looks OK with the new savings and c accounts. I asked for some cash back, ....did not appreciate having to wait a week for a CHECK DRAWN ON BEDFORD to "clear"...probably cleared later that day!
