Hanscom AFB, MA (June 21, 2019) – Hanscom Federal Credit Union recently donated fully stocked backpacks to two elementary schools in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The backpacks, which were packed with a variety school supplies, will be given to second-graders in September during their orientation.

Items such as scissors, colored markers, folders, notebooks, and more were donated by one of Hanscom FCU’s chief vendors, Union Office of Wilmington, MA. During their annual employee meeting earlier this spring, Hanscom employees filled the ninety backpacks with these school supplies.

Sixty-five backpacks were delivered in June to Russell Elementary School and 25 to Clap Elementary School in Dorchester. Both schools are in the vicinity of Hanscom FCU’s newest retail branch, which will be located at the South Bay Center in Dorchester.

“It’s important for us to reach out to the community we’re about to join,” said Elaine Jones, vice president of branch administration for Hanscom FCU. “The credit union has a long history of supporting childhood health, education, and literacy so having our employees put these backpacks together for these second-graders was a natural fit. We hope the children have fun going through their new backpacks and enjoy using the supplies during the rest of the school year.”

The newest Hanscom FCU branch, its 22nd, will be opening in mid-July. The date for its grand opening celebration is forthcoming.
