Hanscom AFB, MA (May 21, 2021) – Hanscom FCU recently donated $500 to the spring cleanup of the Major General Harold J. Greene memorial in Natick, MA. The memorial is located on General Greene Avenue near the entrance to the Natick Soldiers Systems Center (NSSC), which Gen. Greene once commanded.

Maj. Gen. Greene, born in Boston and raised in upstate New York, was a decorated general who was loved by those in his command. He was passionate about his work and the Soldiers under his command. He died in Afghanistan on August 5, 2014 and is the first General to be killed in an attack on foreign soil since the Vietnam War. The base of the memorial is inscribed with Gen. Greene’s name, years of birth and death, his title and years served at NSSC, and the inscription “A Soldier’s Soldier Who Truly Served His Nation With Honor.”

“We’re glad to support the preservation of the Major General Harold J. Greene memorial this spring,” said John Delcore, Hanscom FCU’s chairman of the board. “We hope that this helps not only honor General Greene’s memory, but also helps those in the community to learn about a true leader who sacrificed everything for his country.”
