Hanscom AFB, MA (July 14, 2021) – Hanscom Federal Credit Union was one of eight credit unions, along with three banks, awarded the Military Saves Designation of Savings Excellence for helping reduce debt and build wealth through education during Military Saves Month in April 2021. The award is presented annually to financial institutions that succeed in motivating military members and their families to open or add to wealth-building accounts.

Hanscom FCU’s partner relations team worked with the Airman and Family Readiness Center (AFRC) on Hanscom Air Force Base to provide financial education programming. The topics included making sound decisions about auto financing and developing better organizational skills at work, to estate planning and building investment strategies. The team also worked with the AFRC to present a fun and educational “Balance Bingo” program, which ended with the winner receiving a $100 Visa gift card donated by Hanscom FCU.

“While we encourage all of our members to spend and save responsibly, we’re especially keen for our military members and their families to have access to the knowledge and tools that’ll help them reach their financial goals,” said David Sprague, Hanscom FCU’s president and CEO. “We’re headquartered on a military base, with many of our members serving or having served our country. Everyone on our partner relations team shares their financial knowledge generously with the community, and I’m honored that they’ve been recognized with this award.”

Military Saves Month is an annual opportunity for the entire military community to assess their savings status and make a plan to start or increase saving, and for organizations to support good saving behavior.
