Hanscom AFB, MA (June 28, 2021) – Hanscom Federal Credit Union recently supported the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Burlington, MA. The credit union’s social responsibility department created the Relay Step Challenge, an initiative to drive employee engagement in the absence of a physical Relay for Life. Employees were encouraged to walk, run, or bike as many miles as possible from June 1-12, with health- and wellness-related prizes awarded along the way.

Employees shared updates and pictures of their hikes and walks through the company’s internal chat program, and were encouraged to continue with additional incentive challenges and prizes. Wellness-themed prizes were awarded for the three employees who had the most activity. Together, Team Hanscom FCU trekked 2,519 miles during the challenge.

The credit union matched the amount raised by Hanscom FCU employees for a total donation of over $5,000. This year’s event culminated on June 12 with virtual versions of their annual ceremonies. Included in that total donation is a sponsorship from the credit union of $1,000 to support the Burlington Relay for Life event.

“Year in and year out, Relay for Life does amazing work to support survivors, caregivers, and families,” said Sandy Imbrogna, Hanscom FCU’s training manager, a longtime former team captain and dedicated Relay for Life fundraiser. “Our Hanscom FCU community is happy to support them again by sponsoring the event and through walking, running, hiking, and biking thousands of miles raising money for such a worthy cause.”
