Hanscom AFB, MA (Dec. 23, 2020) – Hanscom Federal Credit Union senior executives David Sprague, Kris Pender and Jim Potter recently participated in a virtual career exploration workshop hosted by Crossroads, a youth empowerment organization, and coordinated by HFCU’s social responsibility manager, Laura Galeski. The workshop, “Practicing Professionalism,” brought together 103 students from Crossroads’ C5 Leaders program and leadership from several Massachusetts companies to give students the opportunity to learn about and practice crucial skills from professionals.

Crossroads offers resources for economically disadvantaged youth in eastern Massachusetts. Programs include residential summer camps as well as a year-round multi-year program promoting leadership development, college and career success, and civic engagement. The C5 Leaders program is a 5-year program that guides and nurtures promising students. The program provides students with support and opportunities to become the well-rounded, empowered adults they have the potential to be.

“It was wonderful to be able to be part of this virtual workshop. We were thrilled to have this opportunity to support Crossroads again and to interact with the C5 Leaders students directly,” said Kris Pender, Hanscom FCU’s chief human resources officer. “Crossroads has been thrown some curveballs because of the pandemic, but they have done a fantastic job adjusting and doing things remotely. The kids were so interested and engaged, and they had some great questions for us. My colleagues and I are grateful we could share some of our expertise with them.”
