Marc Vaccarello received a big surprise at a recent meeting of the Hanscom AFB Civil Air Patrol meeting. With other senior members looking on, Hanscom FCU President/CEO David Sprague presented him with three bats, each signed by a Red Sox hitter.

Vaccarello won the bats signed by Mookie Betts, Dustin Pedroia, and David Ortiz, in a raffle sponsored by the Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation.

“When I called to let Marc know he was the winner, I spoke with his wife. She asked us to surprise him at the Civil Air Patrol meeting,” explained Sprague. “He was really shocked, and very happy.”

Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program. Home Base helps heal the invisible wounds of war, providing support and education about post-traumatic stress (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) suffered by Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.

“We actively support groups like Home Base, because they go to the heart of the community we serve,” noted Alan Hart, chairman of the Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation. “No one who has served his or her country should have to suffer these terrible injuries without our full support.”

The Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation’s mission is to provide funding and assistance to groups that make a lasting impact on the community. In mid-October, the charity plans to launch a second raffle for a New England Patriots helmet signed by Tom Brady, also to benefit Home Base.
