Dr. Richard Hesby’s orthodontics practice in Bedford, MA, is well known among local families. He and his staff are renowned for the excellent care they have provided to their patients since 2004, but also because of its noteworthy and unique décor. Hesby, who lived in Hawaii for four years as a child, uses vintage Hawaiian memorabilia, such as posters and even surfboards, to lend his office suite a laid-back vibe that’s not typically found in orthodontics … or New England.
“It appeals to all ages, adults and kids,” he said. “It’s been a big hit. The energy that it brings is nice as well.”
Hesby has a military connection; he served in the Navy for five years as a nuclear engineer before transitioning to dentistry, which he did for three years. Today, he’s a familiar face at the Hanscom FCU’s Bedford branch. “I have a lot of experience with credit unions, so I started here,” he said. “I have all my business accounts here, my personal accounts, even my kids’ accounts. As a business owner, I’m conscious of fees with checking, but there really aren’t any with Hanscom. I’m in here every other day at least. The staff know me by first name, and if I need something, I can even pick up the phone and they’re on it.”
Besides doing his day-to-day business banking with Hanscom FCU, Hesby has used the credit union for refinancing and for new equipment loans to keep his business thriving. He points out that when he started his practice in Bedford, there wasn’t a commercial lending department in place. “The lending service has gotten quite robust,” he said, “and I recommend that to anyone starting a new business.”
