Hanscom AFB, MA (May 18, 2021) – At its virtual 67th annual meeting May 5, 2021, Hanscom Federal Credit Union presented seven high school seniors with John F. Condon Memorial Scholarships. Each student received $1,500 to assist with expenses for an accredited higher education program.

Named after former board member John Condon, who served the credit union for 26 years, the scholarships are awarded to Hanscom FCU members based on academic record, extracurricular activities, community service, and financial need.

This year’s recipients of Condon Scholarships are James Barrett of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; Julia Ochalla of Needham, Massachusetts; Emma Richards of Hanover, Massachusetts; Samantha Schoenberg of Harvard, Massachusetts; and Audrey Westlund of Leesburg, Virginia. The top graduates of the Lowell High School and Bedford/Billerica High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) programs, Cadet Wing Commander Nicole Bula (Lowell) and Cadet Joshua Brown (Bedford), also received $1,500 scholarships.

“I have been on the Condon Scholarship committee for several years and I really enjoy the work,” said Hugh McNeil, member of Hanscom FCU’s board of directors and scholarship committee chairman. “My main reward is knowing that the future of our country is promising and we have these young, bright, talented, and generous people moving into leadership roles in our society. It gives me a great feeling to review their material to see what they’re made of.”
