On a beautiful spring day in April, three Hanscom FCU charity runners ran the 26.2 miles of the Boston Marathon to help raise a record $63,797 for Boston Children’s Hospital. Our runners were paired with Patient Partners from the renowned hospital, who were there on race day to cheer for #TeamHanscomFCU.

#TeamHanscomFCU partners with Credit Unions Kids at Heart, one of the largest collaborative fundraising programs in the nation, to raise money for pediatric brain research projects at Boston Children’s Hospital. One hundred percent of the money raised goes toward the search for treatments, therapies, and cures for Moyamoya disease, Sturge-Weber Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and pediatric brain tumors.

Master marathoner Ray Phillips, Hanscom FCU’s chairman of the board, has run the iconic race every year since 2000. He ran to support his longtime Patient Partner, Andy Martin, and finished the race in 5:34:15.

This was Hanscom FCU member advisor Lorie Skelton’s second time running the marathon. She ran in support of her Patient Partner, Timmy, and finished the race in 5:55:22.

Dan Ziniti, Hanscom FCU’s senior vice president of member experience, was a marathon first-timer who ran in support of his Patient Partner, Ryan. Dan finished the race in 5:10:31…and we hear that he may have been bitten by the marathoning bug like Ray Phillips was almost 20 years ago.

We’re all proud of the commitment and effort our three team members put into this year’s marathon, and we’re grateful for the donations made by our employees and credit union members to make this a record-breaking fundraising year. Thank you for your support!
